PROJECT SUMMARY:
The retaining walls around the new overpass at the Olive
intersection of I-170 needed a special blend of compacted
material and have a special blended stone finish conforming to
MoDot standards.
PROJECT SOLUTION:
As much as 30,000 square feet of material was needed for
backfill behind the 2500 lineal feet of wall.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
The major consideration for this project was the accelerated
time table for the project in order to get the construction
finished prior to the closure of I-170 & I-64. As many as
15 men worked the project continuously for 2 months in order to
complete the project on schedule. There were also several
contractors working at the site at once, necessitating our
crews to work around pilings during the winter. The
backfill was covered daily to prevent moisture seepage.
