No matter how large your property, Ideal Landscape
Group can take care of you, your residents, or customers during
any snow event. Read about our Zero Tolerance policy for snow
and ice, and learn why ICE can be a deadly winter foe
that's much harder to control than snow.
ZERO TOLERANCE
POLICY:
Our Zero Tolerance
policy for snow and ice means you can rest assured that your
property will remain open and passable during even the worst
snow or ice storm. Ideal’s highly adapted procedure for Snow
Removal employs two means of determining when to begin a snow
and ice operation:
-
Professional
Forecasting — Ideal contracts with a private weather
forecasting service for localized weather information during
the winter months. These forecasters call or fax our office
with any warnings or updates. During the evening and early
morning they contact a designated person at home with this
data. Our Snow Superintendent utilizes this information to
initiate a full plowing operation, if warranted.
-
Observation — looking
out the window! As easy as it sounds, one of our personnel on
the street may tell the dispatcher that paved areas are
getting slippery, or management may determine the need for a
salt run after observing actual conditions. Snow Removal
employees are on call 24 hours a day to deal with emergencies
including snow and ice storms.
CONTROLLING ICE, SLEET, AND SNOW
As with the highways and roadways of the metro area, the Ideal
office can get quite hectic during a snow event. It's a
logistic feat to deploy several dozen crews, along with
chemicals and shoveling details. But once freezing
precipitation complicates a storm things become significantly
more difficult — and dangerous.
Sleet and ice are much harder to clear than snow and require
three times the amount of salt and chemicals to control — to
say nothing of manpower. In fact, a mere 2” of sleet (similar
to the storm we got in January 04) is equivalent to 10-12” of
snow. If sleet and freezing rain mix, it’s like a concrete
mixture which bonds to the pavement surface and is nearly
impossible to remove without more salt and lot of work,
especially around parked cars and on sidewalks and steps.
As we mentioned,
St. Louis normally experiences 19” of precipitation per winter
season.
